Hosho is the name of a school of Yamato swordsmiths in the Koto age and one of the original 5 Gokaden.
They worked in Yamato province and are the most RARE and desirable of the 5 schools of the Yamato Tradition.
The founder was Kunimitsu who lived in the Koan (1278) era of the late Kamakura period.
Hosho Goro Sadamune, Saemon no jyo Sadayoshi and Fujiwara Sadakiyo
were his sons who also worked as the principal smiths of this school.
They were experts in producing masame-hada .
Quite a few Tantos survive but their Tachi is extremely rare. This is a rare example of Tachi produced by this school.
A striking wavy masame-hada mixed with o-hada includes shirrakke utsuri on the
entire length of the blade.
