Fujishiro:
NORIMITSU OSAFUNE [EISHÔ 1504 BIZEN] SUEKOTÔ JÔSAKU

Even though the works of Norimitsu were of a very high grade, he seems to have not signed his zokumei, and on this point, he can be viewed as being in tune with Norimitsu (different spelling) and Sukemitsu.  His style is completely like the style of late Bizen. (Wazamono)

Signature:              BIZEN KUNI JÛ OSAFUNE NORIMITSU

Plate I:    EININ JÛNEN HACHIGATSU KICHIJITSU

Plate II:   BIZEN KUNI JÛ OSAFUNE NORIMITSU

With Norimitsu, there are few blades with zokumei even with custom works.  As for the determination that it is a custom blade, this can be determined at a glance from the superior workmanship.  This is clear even with the nakago.  This is due to the fact that because the nakago steel is good there is no erosion, and the signature kanji are beautiful without even a bit of roughness.  Once in a great while, around Eishô, he signed the zokumei of Shirôzaemonnojô and Shinzaemonnojô.

This large koto era sword has a very elegant shape.  It has grooves carved into it for balance and beauty.  The hada is strong looking and the hamon shows an abundance of activity.  You can also find nice utsuri in the ji.  Overall this is a very good example of a large BIZEN Katana from the koto period.
