Fujishiro:
Fujishiro gives the koto school a blanket rating of Chu-jo saku for above average quality of workmanship.

In the koto times, most Gassan smiths signed with the school name only and so the names of individual smiths are mostly lost to time. This Ken completely matches the features of the late 1400s and early 1500s, and bears the hallmarks of ayasugi hada and narrow sugu samishii hamon well. It is unsigned but to any knowledgeable collector it is without a doubt a early Gassan blade.

The fact that is blade is a ken makes it even more interesting as not many ken are still around compared to katana and wakazashi.  Also it is in a very old shirasaya that also states that is is a gassan school blade.  The hada is very rich looking for such an old blade and the hamon is very strong and sound.  The hamon has fine nie and is very bright.
