ECHIZEN JÛ SAGAMI NO KAMI FUJIWARA KUNITSUNA

SHITAHARA. TSURUMARU MON. (He used the Tsurumaru Mon, as the kanji for Mon is the one meaning a family mon, not the one meaning a school.) He also worked in Edo, around JÔKYÔ (1684-1688)

This is a very high quality wakazashi with beautiful koshirai that are very tasteful.  This fine sword made by Kunitsuna of sagami received TOKUBETSU level papers for its high quality.  The nakago is original and not altered at all.  The hada is very deep and rich looking.  It is forged very well.  The hamon is also elegant and not flashy.  It has fine hataraki and the habuchi is thick.

Historical note when this sword was made:
This period marks the governance of the Edo or Tokugawa Shogunate which was officially established in 1603 by the first Edo shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. It ended in 1867 with the restoration of the Imperial rule by the 15th and last shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu. The Edo period is also known to be the beginning of the early modern period of Japan. The end of this period is particularly called "Late Tokugawa Shogunate".
