This is a koto era katana in good samurai koshirai or mounts.  The blade is of good quality and has an elegant koto shape.  The hada is forged well in itame style.  The hada has a milky look and is better viewed in hand than in photos.  The hamon is very active and many ara-nie are visible.  The nie is very strong and well defined.  The mounts on this sword are all original and show some nice age and wear to them.  The fitting are iron and the handle is wrapped and lacquered.  Lacquered handles like this are very interesting and many are in very poor condition.  This one is very good for its age.
