A striking sword from the koto period this blade has all the character of the classic steel. The hada is a swirling mokume with ji-nie. The hamon is a wild variation of sugu-ha with much hataraki. There is Nijuba, hotsure, kinsuji and sunagashi. ko-nie peppers the surface. The blade is signed Nio Sanekiyo of the suo no kuni.
Japanese:周防国(Suo no kuni) or 防州(B�shu).
Present South Eastern Yamaguchi prefecture.
The mounts are an original samurai style to the sword. The lacquered same(rayskin) accentuates the satsuma style wrap. The banded lacquer saya finishes this koshirae in style. The motif is floral and was very popular among samurai of this period.
