An NBTHK Tokubetsu wakisashi with saya-gaki. Mitsushiro (1680-1716) was the official sword smith of the Owari Yagyu school of fencing for Tokugawa shogun and also the famous Yagyu tsuba! Mitsushiro is also known as Mitsuyo depending on the book you read and is the same smith which made the famous sword "Oni no hocho" for the Yagyu family. He is rated 40 points in Hawleys and is a very rare smith to see as he made most swords for just the one family. As a side note, his swords were carried by the Owari shoguns until 1863, 150 years after his death! This sword is flawless and I have owned this for a very long time. It is the third one i have seen for sale in 15 years of looking for Owari swords. The mei is perfect and the sword is a large heavy blade; the way you like a wakizashi to be. The Hada is mokume with a Seki style hamon which is noted on the saya-gaki by Mr. Tonobe. The cutting edge is 21-5/8" with a thickness of .306, a great sword.
