A very nice koto era tanto signed and dated. This sword is signed by the Bizen Sukesada group of smiths and is dated as 1575. There were many Sukesada smiths working at this time and could be one of many. It is constructed in typical bizen fashion with wide tang a classic Bizen trait. The hamon is Gunome Midare with much activity and plenty of nie with nioi. The hada is a mokume mix.
The mounts are a green lacquered tsuka and saya with abalone or shell suspended within. The gold embossed matching furniture was typical of a late shinshinto style mounting. A very nice package which is signed and dated from the koto period.
