This elegantly made Koto Tanto comes in an older polish. The hamon is an erratic blend of gunome-midare temper with many hataraki. The blade was made in the mino style. The hada is an itame and a fresh polish will bring out its characteristics even more. This Tanto still shows off its fine qualities even in an older polish such as this. The blade is signed, the second character is a little difficult to read but the signature appears to be Kanetomo saku. This HIRA-ZUKURI tanto could possibly be from the shizu group of swordsmiths.
The koshirae is of the Higo Style. The saya is a mix of beautiful stone textured lacquer with Floral motif fittings and appears to be from the late Edo period. This package is complete with well made higo style fittings and Higo style tsuba. The tsuka has a wonderful original black lacquered same(rayskin)with brown leather ito.
