A beautiful Shinshinto Katana this sword is reminiscent of much earlier work. The first three kanji are difficult to make out and this is a unlisted smith. The smiths name is Morinaga and dated this blade when he made it in 1865. The blade has a fine hada and attractive hamon. At 26 this blade is a wonderful piece. The hada is slightly visible and appears to be a Mokume with itame . There is a longish wavy kissaki. There is nie all over. The hamon is made up of sugu-ha which would look spectacular in polish. A fantastic sword with much to enjoy and appreciate.
The koshirae is a nice set. There are matching fittings of SHI-Shi in original mountings . There is a tsuba with some gold shi-shi. The ito is original in blue. The saya is an older original black finish with kojiri and sageo.
This sword should be polished and submitted to Shinsa at some point.
