The founder of Chikushi Ryokai started in the Nanbokucho
period after the Yamashiro ryokai moved to the Chikugo area.
The special characteristics of this school is a mixture of Yamashiro Ryokai suguha
and Bungo jigane which was hadatachi jigane (visible to see the texture). This blade has a beautiful Shobu Zukiri shape with attractive Sori.
This blade was papered to Chikushi Ryokai because of the quality Jitetsu and characteristics of the steel.Ryokai blades are very desirable collectables in the Japanese Sword world.
The blade comes mounted in an older mounting with floral motif that is of very good quality. The old lacquer though a bit scuffed still retains the older patina. The aquamarine ito is older and a popular color for Samurai. These are very fine original mounts that compliment this early blade.
