This smith is listed in Hawleys under KUN 1259 and this is a fine example of his workmanship.  The sword was signed and dated by the swordsmith, adding to its overall appeal as a higher quality collectable sword.  This sword has a beautiful sugata/shape and is a very strong looking Katana.  The hada is tightly forged and the hamon has very good activity.  The sword is better in hand because the pictures can not show the hamon well.  It was difficult to photograph.  The mounts are all in dragon motif and the handle and saya are newly restored and sound.  This Kunitake was known to have worked from the late 1700's shinto era so this sword must have been made in his twilight years.  The shirasaya has a nice sayagaki/writing that also adds to this fine blade and is accompanied with NBTHK papers attesting to the signature and quality.
