Page 432 Rated highly at "JO-SAKU"
Shigekuni was originally called Kunisuke and later called Shrobei and is commonly known as Monju Shigekuni. He became a Kaji companion of Tokugawa Yorinobu. This smith is very highly rated at JO-SAKU Level and this is a flawless example of his work. The overall feel of this sword is very elegant and has a koto look to it even if it is early shinto. Its obvious looking at this blade why the smith is so highly rated. The hamon is not flashy but has a deep active appearance. In hand you will see many fine hataraki/activaty within the hamon and the hada has a smooth silky fine appearance expressing its quality. This is a very fine blade and it also comes with real original and un-restored mounts. The saya has leather covering it that has been lacquered and is in exceptional condition. The handle has its original wrap and the fittings are very fine and of high quality. The fuch/kashira are more than likely early edo and could receive good papers by themselves. This sword comes polished in shirasaya with a tsunagi to display the koshirai/mounts.
