The Hoju school is one of the oldest groups in Mutsu and Dewa Provinces. They were active in Kamakura and Nanbokucho times. This Tachi is an exceptional example of this schools work. Works from the Hoju school are not found for sale easily. This sword is almost 30 inches long and has a very elegant curvature and style. The itame hada is forged very well and the hamon is rich with hataraki. You can see fine nie and a thick nio guchi with nijuba and many ashi. This sword is from the 1400's and is over 600years old but is still very healthy and sound. Papers attesting to the quality, age and school accompany this fine tachi.
