Soshu Tsunahiro (Jo Saku rated smith)
This is an incredible sword made by shodai Tunahiro of the Soshu tradition of sword smiths. The NBTHK papers attribution is to Soshu Tsunahiro not to Tsunahiro school or generations. This blade for its age is very stout and strong looking. the carving or horimono shows no wear at all. This very fine sword has an abundance of activity in the hamon and has many tobu-yaki in the ji. The hada or grain is tightly forged and also very healthy. Previous owners have named this sword "falling feathers". If you point the sword up it appear to have falling feathers coming down to the handle. This impressive blade comes with hozon papers but if it had a signature from the smith we feel it would be a great candidate for juyo shinsa. Still with hozon papers Tanobe Sensei of the NBTHK gave this blade a beautiful sayagaki. The habaki is sold gold foil over copper and is also of high quality. Beautiful rare swords like this that stand out above others are difficult to find.
