The "ken" was the original shape that was used by the first warriors and nobles in Japan. The design was copied from the Chinese and to modern times many fine Ken are still made. This blade was made by Hokyo Koansai Jumyo. Many smiths used the name of JUMYO but this smith is listed and worked in Owari province. He died in 1703 at the age of 84. Most of these types of swords were very well made as they were not so common. Many were fine presentation blade and were dedicated to shrines throughout Japan. This particular blade has a very lovely shape and balance. It is a stout and healthy blade that has a very silky hada that is well forged. The hamon is in a elegant style and not flashy. The overall look of this KEN is that of tranquility and balance. It has some lightly carved kanji on the blade. The habaki is gold foiled and comes in shirasaya with NBTHK papers attesting to the signature and quality of this fine blade.
