This is a signed shigekuni sword from the koto era. Only one smith from this period is listed that signed Takeda ju Shigekuni. Takeda sword were very popular as good functional blades but not necessarily beautiful. This is not the case with this wakazashi. The hamon is very well made and has a good balance throughout this sword. The activity in the hamon can clearly be seen in the photos. The hada also is very lovely and rich looking. In hand this wakazashi is very beautiful, even more than in pictures. The mounts/fittings are old and the saya and handle are completely restored. This sword is complete and comes with papers attesting to the quality and signature of the maker.
