This is a classic tanto made by one of the masters of the Bizen school is very well made. It is in excellent condition for its age and shows very fine details reminiscent of this famous school. Many swords know as Kazuchi mono were made during these times. Kazuchi mono are in general considered mass produced. This Tanto is not a Kazuchi mono. Mass produced sword were not signed with the "zen" in Bizen. Mass produced swords were generally signed with "shu" as in Bishu. This common knowledge is well known to collectors in general, so this tanto is made by one of the masters of the school and not mass produced. The hamon has very good hataraki/activity and looks very elegant. Tanto like this were very important to samurai of the period. The hada is finly forged in a mixtur of masame and large mokume. Ji nie is visible and utsure also can be seen. This Muromachi era tanto that is signed and dated is a very collectable item. Even the mounts are all original and perhaps not as old as the blade but well over a few hounded years in age. The mounts are very elegant and add very much to this tanto. This items comes in a good polish with a shirasaya and koshirai and also is accompanied with Hozon papers issued by the NBTHK in Japan that verifies the signature/age and quality.
