This sword is signed by Shigeyuki of bungo province. There were a few generations that signed somewhat similar but we feel that this is from the 4th generation that worked in the 1700's. This signature we verify to be completely authentic. The workmanship on this sword is very good. Take a look at the pictures and you can see all the activity within the hamon. This is a solid samurai sword and was no doubt carried by a true samurai. The mounts are not flashy but are all solid iron. the saya also is original and is a few hundred years old. Its in good shape and shows wear from the years of service to it owner. The hada is forged well and is deep looking. In some places it is course hada and overall tightly forged. The hada has a milky appearance. This sword is truly a samurai blade for a collector looking for a signed well made katana with great history.
