This is a very old katana from a very important line of smiths. The gassan school is very highly regarded and this is a very good example of the workmanship they produced. Many of these swords are unsigned but are very easy to pick out by the workmanship in the hada/grain pattern they were famous for. The ayasugi hada is very visible in this blade. This sword also is a signed blade making it even more desirable. The overall condition is poor at this time and is in desperate need of restoration. We feel that if restored properly it will come back and will be a sword that can then be submitted to shinsa but the restoration must be done by a professional. this very old sword can easily be destroyed if given to the wrong polisher. In any case this is a sword that someone will have to take a shot at to restore it. In the end it has the possibility of becoming a very important sword.
