This a very fine example of a Soshu school katana made by a later generation Tsunahiro. The tsunahiro lineage of swordsmiths started back in the late 1300's and extended into the 1800's. They have a rich reputation, and swords from the Soshu Tsunahiro line are very desirable. This particular sword shows all the reasons why they are popular. The quality is high and this sword is well made. The hada is very rich and silky looking and shows good depth. The hamon is very well balanced with many fine hataraki/activity within it. This is a rather long sword also just over 29 inches long. This katana comes with its original mounts that are also matching. The fittings are very interesting in that the fuchi/kashira match the fitting on the saya also. The mounts have a mixture of soft metals. The iron tsuba is also very sound and balances out the fittings well. This is a katana that was made to be carried regularly and used if necessary, the mounts are good quality but not meant to be too flashy. This katana is in a great polish that shows all the fine details and comes with mounts and an appraisal paper from the NTHK attesting that the signature is good as is the quality of this sword.
