An outstanding katana which appears to be from the koto period. This sword reminds one of a Bizen katana. This blade has the typical characteristics of blades made in the koto era. It also has a chu- Kissaki and straightish slight sori , and is ubu which appears to have a corroded signature that looks like Kunitsugu but it is hard to make out the last kanji. The activities in the Ha are very nice with ji-nie . The hamon is an attractive gunome-ish / notare-midare in a notarish pattern. There is tsunagashi and many hataraki to be found. The hada is covered in ji-nie and is an itame mixed with mokume . The hada is a denser itame than mokume with a whitish jigane and the hamon is a gunome/notare midare. Ko-nie layers the entire hamon blanketing the nioi-guchi. This katana is very sound and healthy. The blade is more on the straight side for thrusting style. The blade is a true “katate-uchi” or one handed style katana for those who practice this style art.
The koshirae is clean and fundamental with shakudo menuki of a dragon chasing a pearl . The fuchi kashira is an engraved cloud like pattern which is picturesque and in old iron. A black lacquered saya with a geometric pattern and quite unique looking . The Tsuba is of Sukashi style with a TATE-KAKU-GATA shape of iron with a shakudo mimi rim. The mounts are a quasi Tachi / Han-dachi style for a samurai. The blade is not in polish. The sageo is black and the tsuka-ito is black to match.
