The Quintessential Shinto era Japanese Samurai sword, this blade though in need of some TLC still maintains the original signature and attributes. The blade comes with mounts. The blade itself is a blend of Notare and erratic large nodule Gunome with a thick frosting nie and nioi. The itame hada appears tightly forged with some masame and mokume which is hard to differentiate in the pictures . This blade is a solid Shinsa candidate after restoration.
This katana is waiting for its new owner, it appears to be of the shoho era Shinto. The cutting edge is just under 27″ The sword is signed “Sado No Kami Kunitomi Motoyoshi Saku” and ready to go!
The mounts are civilian with Nanbam tsuba matching key fret style fuchi / kashira with a leather covered saya military but needs new saya, a handle menuki and wrap.
He is listed in Fujishiro’s and this is what is stated:
KUNITOMI SADO NO KAMI [SHÔHÔ 1644 NAGATO] SHINTÔ CHÛSAKU
He also lived in Edo, Ôshû and Izumo. He is said to have also been titled SADO NO DAIJÔ.
Signatures:
SADO NO KAMI KUNITOMI GENKA SAKU
SADO NO KAMI FUJIWARA KUNITOMI
Shoshin also has him listed:
SADO DAIJO
KUNITOMI SHO-HO 1644 NAGATO SHINTO
MOTOYOSHI (same as KUNITOMI)
We recommend full restoration be done to this sword. Mr. Becerra feels this a very beautiful sword that with the proper polish will surprise it new owner and should polish out extremely well. Pictures, because of its condition do not do this sword justice. In hand an abundance of beautiful hataraki/activity can be seen and the hada also is very well done. We strongly feel this sword with proper overall restoration will be well worth it to the new owner. So we are pricing it very fairly to allow for restoration.
