Antique Japanese Sword Tanto Signed by Kiyonaga with NTHK Certificate
Namidaira Kiyonaga of the Satsuma region that had the highest ratio of Samurai warriors compared to other regions during the Edo Period. Kiyonaga made swords for Samurai warriors in Satsuma. The NTHK NPO authenticated the blade as authentic. The purchaser will receive this original certificate as well. The blade is dated to Tensho Period(1573-1593 A.D.) The sword is hadatatsu or hadamono which is a courser grain that stands out. This Tanto has an itame nagare hada with masame. The hamon is a Hoso-suguha with gunome bumps is a shallow notareish finish. The habuchi is bright. The koshirae fittings are all matching copper of a scrolled like arabesque like finish except for the kashira. The menuki are copper Sakura blossums on white Same (rayskin). The saya is lacquered in a black striated style with alternating bands of gloss and flat black. There is a black sageo also.
