A beautiful wakazashi of the koto era that has been shortened. As you can see in our photographs the hamon is a hoso-suguha with an overall stoic shape. There is ji-nie in abundance and and a perfectly controlled hoso-sugu-ha with a bright nioi-gucchi. The boshi is a ko-maru style almost yakitsune and also follows the hoso-suguha hamon that tends to kaen at the top. A very nice feature to study. The hada is a ko-itame with mokume mix and ji-nie appears, a beautiful mix of hada to accentuate this glowing hamon. The sword has a slight curvature and the overall classic sugata/shape of a koto suriage piece. This narrow suguha along with the yakitsune like boshi reminds one of the oldest of Yamato pieces.
The koshirae: This is a interesting set of mounts with a menuki of a dragon around ken against a beautiful pattern of Same with large nodules. The tsuba is of brass with a mokku shape. The fuchi and kashira are match of Chidori over ocean waves. A lacquered saya of crushed Abalone shell with silver inlayed in the lacquer. The condition of the mounts is a bit worn but are still together and add to this old sword. The kodzuka is of Hoei’s bag and fan. The Sageo is in white to match the tsuka ito. The habaki, is finished in a silver foil. There is a peculiar red stripe running down one side of the saya that makes one wonder if this has any meaning. A good package for restoration of an old koto blade.
