This elegantly made Tanto comes in a beautiful older polish. The hamon is an erratic blend of Notare-midare. The blade appears it was made in the bizen style and has a koto feeling to it. We have listed it as shinto to be conservative but it may very well be koto if judged by the hada and hamon . The hada is itame mix with swirling masame and is well made. This Tanto has fine qualities and has with its HIRA-ZUKURI shape make it a classical looking tanto.
The koshirai is of rolling cloud like formations are completely matching throughout. The saya is a mix of a beutiful lacquered black with a cloud motif of matching fittings. This fittings are of all well made silver and a wonderful original black lacquered saya with an all same tsuka and a brown sageo. There is a gold foiled habaki. The mekugi is not normally found in this style. It looks like opal stones were placed carefully on the outside of the silver pin. Kodzuka matches all the mounts and again its important to note that the fittings appear to be made together by one craftsmen and not put together. This is a lovely set of mounts with a blade that has no flaws and has potential if properly polished.
