Yasuharu (康春) of the Tenbun Era (1532–1555), Sagami Province
Yasuharu (康春), active during the Tenbun era (天文, 1532–1555), was a distinguished swordsmith working in Sagami Province, historically known as Sōshū (相州). Often signed as “Sōshū-jū Yasuharu” (相州住康春) or simply “Yasuharu” (康春), he is generally regarded as the second generation bearing this name.
As part of the renowned Sōshū tradition, Yasuharu’s work reflects the dynamic character and technical mastery that defined the school since its establishment in the late Kamakura period. His blades typically feature robust construction, graceful curvature, and an energetic hamon (temper line) that exemplifies the vigorous spirit of Sōshū craftsmanship. Yasuharu’s forging techniques and style reveal both fidelity to tradition and personal artistry, contributing to the enduring legacy of Sagami swordsmiths.
Although not as widely known as the founding masters of the Sōshū tradition like Masamune, Yasuharu’s swords remain valued among collectors and scholars for their historical significance and refined workmanship. His designation as the second generation emphasizes the continuity of skill and aesthetic sensibility within his lineage, preserving the Sōshū style into the mid-16th century—a turbulent yet culturally rich period in Japanese history.
