Item description here
This Shinshinto tanto comes in an original set of koshirae and is in an older polish. The work on this sword is clean. It is a narrow hoso-suguha hamon . The hada is itame and in good shape. Ji-nie appears. The style is that of hira-zukuri . The tang is signed and dated with kao. It reads: Ichi Josai Amahide on one side with kao. The other reads: Bunsei Ninen hachi gatsu hi. (A day in August 1819) made age 71.
We do not feel this blade to have a correct signature hence we are pricing to reflect this.
The Koshirae is a beautiful swirling effect gloss black lacquer. The Fuchi/Kashira are of snakes and the Kashira appears to be engraved with this design. There is a Kojiri with cherry bloosum motif and blue sageo.
There is bohi “(gomabashi) and a sword horimono engraved on the blade.
A gold washed habaki adorns the blade.
The mounts are splendid.
