Shinto Wakazashi (fss-659)
A special shobu-zukiri sword with signed musashi no daijo fujiwara Tadahiro. The hada is an itame with some mokume covered in a velvety ji-nie. There is a thick nio-guchi with ko-ashi to be seen. The Hamon is a gunome-choji midare filled with activity. The sword is covered in Ji-Nie. Ara-nie and Ko-nie can be seen frosting the hamon the entire length of the sword. Ashi is present and Chikei in spots. This Shinto blade reminds one of Koto work when viewed. There is a long signature that reads ” Musashi Daijo Fujiwara Tada Hiro “. this sword has not been submitted to Shinsa as of yet so it is priced accordingly as if it were unsigned. The sword looks to be of the Hizen school and is very well made with a very beautiful hamon. The sword is in an older polish with no flaws but the tip is slightly damaged. The Hamachi is wide and the blade has a fine shape as well. It is as ubu with one hole. The koshirae is ocean related with a deeply carved fuchi / kashira of waves. The Tsuba is mainly shakudo with a large fish motif. The menuki appear to be of shells. The kodzuka is of baskets and misc. implements. The saya is an original with red lacquer finish with some loss at the seams. All in all a great package for the sword that is within. The saya has some minor damage.
