Ivory Tanto (fss-889)

A very interesting carved ivory tanto in pristine condition. This tanto koshirae is of an interestingly carved  depiction of scholars or teachers with children in nature amongst the pine trees with clouds. The sages and or scholars are depicted in a series of intricate robes and garb. Some have canes in hand while others are in period clothing with complex designs of the period including caps or hats of differing pieces. There are scrolls and fans to be found also. The children are also dressed in raveled regalia obviously learning from this group of wise old fellows. Some of these wise old men are sporting beards and the like all depicting a wonderful day in this place.
The sword that is mounted with this koshirae is hirazukiri in shape with gunome midare like hamon. The hada is an itame mokume like blend with a semi-long turnback in the boshi.
This Tanto is a art item and is an interesting addition to any collection.
