This beautifully lacquered exquisitely made Tanto comes in a very nice polish. The hamon is extremely subtle with a togare-ba/gunome temper. This blade was made in the mino style probably from the Shinshinto era. The hada is a masame mix with mokume and very finely done. The sword shows off the blades fine qualities in a very clear sashikomi polish. The blade is in HIRA-ZUKURI shape. The koshirai is a mix of beautiful lacquer work with a suspension of large abalone within and appears to be from the Shin-shinto era. A beautiful saya with exquisite lacquering. This package is complete and well made finished with a beautiful high grade sageo and a dark rich brown leather ito. the motif for the menuki are of a boar. There is an iron kodzuka with a playful puppy with toy!
A beautiful TANTO in the tradition of the MINO school this sword exemplifies the late MINO school of the Shinshinto era. As you can see in our new High Resolution photographs the hamon is an active mixture of gunome with an overall ko-notare shape. There is ara-nie in abundance and hotsure. The boshi is a midare-komi with kaen. The hada is a masame with mokume mix and ji-nie appears, a beautiful tight hada to accentuate this glowing hamon. The sword has a shape and overall it suggests a time forgotten.
This koshirae is clean and fundamental with menuki of a boar in a floral setting. Large abalone shell suspended in a lacquered saya finishes the mounts in a true japanese style. The blade is in full polish and should be sent to shinsa at a later date. There is a upcoming Shinsa soon!!
