This is a very nice quality katana that is in need of restoration to bring out all its fine details. The condition is not very bad as the hamon is very visible and shows many hataraki/activity. The sword is cut down and still has a very nice sugata. It is listed as shinto (1600’s-1700’s) but after a good polish it may show more details that can narrow down the proper age. There is a possibility that it may be koto (1400’s-1500’s). Our listing it as shinto era is a conservative judgment. The sword is mounted and the fittings are authentic and antique, however the handle and scabbard appear to be from another sword. They were fitted to this sword and not made for this sword. If this sword is to be polished and restored this can be address at that time. Overall an interesting katana with fittings and good hamon.
