Musashi Daijo Korekazu 2nd(fss-916)

This swordsmith, Musashi Daijo Korekazu, second generation was of the Edo Ishido Tradition. He received the title of “Musashi Daijo” during the Empo Era and started to forge from the year 1678. He took over his father’s forging features from the first generation that resemble the features of Fukuoka Ichimonji from Bizen.  He is also listed as a Jo-Jo Saku smith.

This is a very fine quality wakizashi with full signature and high level Tokubetsu papers from the NBTHK.  It has good quality mounts and is in a good polish. The shirasaya also has horn inlay work that is special.  Look carefully at the hamon detail picture to see all the activity found on the sword. The hada is very clear and you can find chikei activity also.  The mounts are of good quality from tsuka to saya.  The motif of the menuki was often used as a theme for Asian art. Mythological subjects and auspicious symbols were sometimes used as motifs for Japanese sword furniture. Motifs could stand alone as designs unto themselves, particularly if they had seasonal or symbolic associations, but they were also used as decorative patterns surrounding or backing more pictorial motifs such as this. The habaki is a older style silver with rainfall design.. The Fuchi/Kashira are of the mino-goto style of bugs and flowers and the tsuba is an Owari style iron tsukashi . The kodzuka handle motif is floral in design and the saya is a suspended seashell in black lacquer and not the usual green that is most common. The tsuka-ito is black that pairs wellk with the saya. Overall a very beautiful sword.
