This is a beautiful ubu wakazashi with 2 mekugi-ana and an abundance of activity. It appears to be of the late koto era. As you can see in our photographs the hamon is a very active gunome/choji temper with brilliant activity. There is ji-nie and and the sword has a very strong and elegant curvature. The boshi is a chu-kissaki ko-maru style almost with hakikake that tends to kaen at the top. The hada is a ko-itame with ko-mokume mix to accentuate this peculiar hamon pattern. There are areas of hitatsura that can be seen more like wisps of temper jumper from the flames. This polish is older and has some minor staining. The blade is mounted with silver-foiled habaki. This wakazashi is an excellent sword for any collector. The mounts or koshirerae are a typical samurai style mount. The koshirai is floral themed of flowers in a vase. The fuchi is also a floral motif. The menuki are usagi, or rabbits. The tsuka ito is black to match the black lacquered saya adorned with the Tokugawa mon. The tsuba is sukashi style of samurai on a ship surrounded by the sea with gold highlights . We recommend at some point that this sword should be submitted to shinsa to add more value to this wonderful wakizashi.
