YOKOYAMA SUKENAGA (FSS-955)

A special shinogi-zukiri sword thath is signed Bizen Osafune Ju Yokoyama Sukenaga and dated Bunsen Hachi New Ni Gatsu HI  (1825 a day in February). The hada is an itame with some mokume covered in a velvety ji-nie. There is a finely distributed nio-guchi with ko-ashi to be seen. The Hamon is an erratic gunome-choji midareba made with a density that looks like mounds of snow. The sword is covered in Ji-Nie.  Ko-nie can be seen frosting the hamon the entire length of the sword. Ashi is present and Chikei in spots. The sword is of the Bizen school and is very well made with a very beautiful hamon.  The sword is in pristine beautiful polish with no flaws. The koshirae motif is deeply carved fuchi / kashira of pine trees and figures. The Tsuba is an iron nambam style with the a pair of facing dragons. The menuki appear to be of Hotei or some related character The kodzuka is of  shi ship racing through the floraand misc. The saya is a black lacquer finish. All in all a this is great collectable sword.  The saya has some scuffing. The sword itself is mounted in shirasaya with a gold washed habaki with a black ito wrapped tsuka  The blade has a fine shape as well, It is ubu with one hole, mounted with Papers.

Fujushiroi has Sukenaga listed as a Jo Saku level smith.  Thats a very good rating.

SUKENAGA YOKOYAMA [TENPÔ 1830 BIZEN] SHINSHINTÔ JÔSAKU
He is the second td son of Sukehira.  His older brother became the adopted son of the Sukesada Ke, and it is said that he followed in the footsteps of his father Sukehira and of his own volition called himself the grandson of Tomonari in the 56th generation, and in addition to him there are many others which have inscribed “TOMONARI GOJÛROKUDAI MAGO” (Grandson of Tomonari in the 56th generation).  He went to his eternal rest at the age of 57 on Kaei Yonen (1851) Rokugatsu Futsuka (6/2).  His works have a jitetsu in the muji style, hamon is a nioi shimari ko-gonome choji ashi iri which is very clear.
